You don’t have to be a handyman to appreciate the need for tools. Everything we build was created with the aid of one tool or another. In fact some tools are so much a basic essential part of our lives we might not be able to survive without them. So here are the top 5 Tools we can’t live without.

1. Screwdriver – Almost all of our furniture and homes home appliances have a few screws. Without a screwdriver we simply would not be able to put together the elaborate things we built in our modern society.
   I also wager to bet that almost every American house hold has at least one screwdriver or at least one of those small personalized pocket screwdrivers.
2. Hammer – Image trying to push a nail into a piece of wood with your bear hands. Almost as difficult as trying to get water from a rock. Well that’s what we would have to do if we didn’t have a hammer. All of our homes are built with the use of a hammer or one of its newer spinoffs such as the nail gun.
3. Flashlight – This is one of those essential tools everyone must have in their home. It’s become so popular some professional even carry it with them at all times – for example firemen and police officers. Yep, emergency flashlights can make life much easier. Just think that custom keychain flashlight you have could become very handy some day.
4. Knife – You undoubtedly will come across one thing or another that you need to cut everyday. And although you might not consider a knife at the dinner table a tool, it too is a tool and just as useful any in your toolbox. If you think about it, what items have not seem a cut or too by a knife. Most food, clothing, carpet and even the boxes with which things are packed in have had a slice or two.
5. Tape Measure – We would produce some awfully uneven chairs to sit on and beds to sleep in if we never had tape measures. Every shop project requires at least a few measurements; even the simplest wood project requires this. That’s why I always keep my trusty custom tape measure (that’s engraved with my initial) prominently on displayed on my workbench.

Whether you’re a tool fanatic or just a weekend warrior we can all agree tools are an essential part of all the things we build. I’m sure if you think about it there are many more important tools that are vital to do the things we do and build the products we make. Tools are an invaluable and important part of our lives.
